How can there be 26 teams and there are not 13 first round games. In Championship play everyone should have a first round game. If you look at this bracket you can see a lot of teams are playing a winner or a loser for their first game. The bracket should have on one side Winners playing winners other bracket Losers playing losers. Winner of top bracket plays winner of lower bracket. That way it is fair for everyone. Also the two fields at Kernoodle Middle school are sub par especially the baseball field. The backstop is too far back. Just my thoughts, until the teams start holding Got Game accountable this is going to happen over and over again. Softball here is 10 years behind California, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma and Florida. I have been a ASA coach for over 20 years and until I moved to North Carolina I thought I had seen everything. Socal Coach

SoCal Coach,
I agree that there was some imbalance with the brackets. However, 26 teams requires at least 2 teams having a 1st round bye. If all 26 teams played the1st round, then there would be 13 winners and 13 losers. So your thought of winners playing winners and losers playing losers would leave a 2 teams without an opponent. My issue with the brackets was with how imbalanced they were. It makes no sense that the Lady Blues '03 and Carolina Cardinals were matched up in the 1st round with the winner having to play Team NC Hatch in the 2nd round. These are 3 of the best teams in the State. The bracket set up ending up with the Cardinals and Lady Blues meeting for the 2nd time on Saturday with the loser being eliminated.
Meanwhile, there was a bracket that had only one A level team, two '03 B level teams and four '04 teams. Using Beast and Destroy Rankings for seeding would have helped for more balanced brackets.
